Why Defame the World? What happens when the mind is not working? Answers in Day 5 Itarasi Katha

On day 5 of Itarasi Bhagavat Katha, Pujya Bhaishri guides us on two areas that will help make our life joyful and a celebration should we implement it.

There are no issues with things in this world. The issues are on how we utilise these things. Sometimes, a trickle of poison can act as medicine while an overdose of medicine can turn into poison. There will be no problems in this world if things are used with discipline and correct discrimination.

No one attains freedom in this world by opposing it. The wise have become free by learning from it. We do not need to leave this material world. Instead, we need to understand it. God has made trees, plants, flowers, fruits, rivers, forests, mountains etc. for us to enjoy.

One who defames the world is indirectly defaming God. For example, when one denigrates a picture, the defame will be considered to be of the artist and not the picture.

Everything belongs to God. It will not take long for life to turn into a celebration if we understand how to use something at the right time, in the right way, in the right place and for the right purpose.

The importance of keeping the mind busy in creative work

The mind can never sit empty. It is in its nature to work continuously. If it does not get to do some good work, it will run towards the bad. When the mind is empty, it will start to rampage. It will take you to places such as quarrels, conflict, gossiping and other vices in which your downfall is definite.

It may be okay if this downfall affects only the current life. However, one ends up committing so many wrong deeds that one is bound to take many births to reap the results of these prārabdha karma (deeds that make one’s destiny).

Keep your mind busy in creative actions. This will not only develop you spiritually, but also physically. If the mind is driven in the right direction, life becomes joyful. Otherwise, it does not take long for life to be chaotic and upset.

On day 5, Shri Krishna janma was celebrated by the people of Itarasi with great fanfare.
