On the auspicious day of the New Year (celebrated on 15th November 2020 at ShriHari Mandir), various grains were offered to Lord ShriHari as a grain festival called ‘Dhānyakoot’. As per Pujya Bhaishri’s divine inspiration in these difficult times, the Lord’s prasāda is then systematically distributed to ensure that all are able to benefit from this blessed food drive.
Five hundred 30kg kits had been prepared containing 10kg wheat (gehu); 10kg pearl millet (bājrā); 10kg rice (chāval). The distribution of the grains organised for this drive shall continue to develop, and updates of tribal and regional outreach shall continue to be shared.
On 17th November 2020, the distribution of these kits began at Sandipani Vidyaniketan (Porbandar) and reached Sagar Vidyarthi Bhavan and Audichya Gohelwadi (both in Porbandar), ensuring an outreach today to hundreds of lower-income families.
On Wednesday, 18.11.2020 the second round of distribution of these 30kg prasāda grain kits from ShriHari’s ‘Grain-Fest 2020’ reached forty five additional grateful families from the ‘Vanand Samaj Wadi’, Porbandar .
This communal service of prasāda distribution was conducted in the esteemed presence of Shri Batee Sahib (Deputy Collector, Porbandar), Shri Narottambhai Palan, Shri Bipinbhai Joshi (Principal, Babdeshwar Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya) along with volunteers from the Vaanand Samaj. Rishikumars from Sandipani Vidyaniketan distributed the grain kits maintaining all safety protocols during this time.
The transformation in thinking driven by food being offered to the Lord and becoming prasāda is primarily two-fold:
1. We honor it and do not misuse or waste even a grain or drop of prasāda.
2. It is shared with humility on the part of the giver and received with delight on the part of the receiver—with no sense of ego (mightiness) in giving, nor any sense of lowliness in receiving.
Pujya Bhaishri emphasised that the ‘Goverdhan Leela’ of Jagadguru ShriKrishna is for the well-being of a vibrant ecology, economy and education with a lasting positive impact upon social harmony. This is a universal and all-inclusive festival wherein each member of society is invited to bring what they can from their homes or earnings, and offer towards the wider good; and the collective “mountain” (koot) of offerings are then distributed equitably amongst all and relished with a sense of gratitude and unity.
