There is no logic in the thought that it is essential to become a vegetarian because the majority of people are non-vegetarian and there is also no logic in the thought that non-vegetarians are bad people and vegetarians are good people. Take a glance at nature and animals! You will notice that those animals that drink water with their lips are vegetarian and those that drink water with their tongues are non-vegetarian, then in which group are we?
Animals perform deeds due to their innate nature. The teeth of meat-eating animals are long and pointed and they have small eyes so they can rapidly eat their food, whereas vegetarian animals are not created like this and they do not eat meat. Intestines of vegetarians are much longer than those of non-vegetarians as non-vegetarian food is digested in less time than vegetarian food. We humans have intestines which are 30ft. long!
It is true that right in the beginning of civilization man did eat non-vegetarian but as over a period of time he got civilised he understood his biological nature and started eating vegetarian food.
Being a human being, you must ask yourself one question, “what is meat?”.
The answer is, “It is digested food”.
When you eat meat, you are eating food that has already been digested by the animal. This is the source of many diseases. You contract the same disease that the animal had by eating meat, for example, Mad Cow Disease. God has made the human body to eat vegetarian food.
Also, you don’t have the power to give life to any living being then you have no right to take it. Swami Vivekanand whilst touring America visited a canning factory. He appreciated the development of technology in the canning industry and asked them if they could reverse this process.
That technology is advanced, which gives life not that which takes life. Compassion is the foundation of generosity.
Do you put diesel in a petrol engine car? No, then this body is a temple too. Manmade temples made of cement and sand are irrefutably considered to be pure. Then what about the temple in the form of the human body made by God? Do we care for this temple in the form of human body just like we care for a manmade temple of God? Remember, this body is a temple not a graveyard.
