How can one attain peace and happiness?

In the first chapter of Shrimad Bhagavat, Shri Ved Vyasji writes that he did not attain peace despite expanding the Vedas and creating the Mahabharat and Puranas. Shri Naradji arrives at Shri Vyasji’s ashram and asks: “Oh son of Parashara, are you physically and mentally satisfied with what you have done?”
Shri Ved Vyasji replied that he isn’t satisfied and has no peace. He questioned Shri Naradji why this was the case. A devotee holds the key to attaining peace. This is because a devotee lives a life of love and faith.
It is written in the Gitaji:
Na chaabaavayatah shantira shantasya kutaha sukham’
Meaning,
How can one have peace in life without faith? And without peace one cannot be happy. This is why even a learned scholar is unhappy and only a devotee is happy.
Shri Naradji is a devotee; he is the spiritual leader of the path to devotion. A scholar, Shri Ved Vyasji, asks a devotee, Shri Naradji, the cause of his dissatisfaction and how he can attain bliss like Shri Naradji owns.
Shri Naradji replied that until now, your creation has been based on history. Now, praise God with faith and devotion in focus, so that people can develop bhakti (devotion). Both you and others who listen to your devout creation will gain peace. Hence, with Naradji’s inspiration, Shri Ved Vyasji created Shrimad Bhagavat, the source to attain peace.

Today, along with this satsang, let us all pray to Lord Shankar by singing along to the Shivaashtakam.
