Shrimad Bhagavat katha commenced on 9th Dec. at Chaanasma in Gujarat. It was organized by “Shri Saidham Charitable Trust” and the family of Shrimati Samuben Mafatlal Labhshankar Vyas was the chief host of this katha.

A grand Shobhayatra of Shrimad Bhagavat was taken out in the morning of 9th Dec. 2006. On the previous day, that is on 8th Dec. a grand Palakhi (Palanquin) yatra of Sri Saibaba was taken out. People of Chaanasma and surrounding villages participated in these yatras. Saints and learned Brahmins welcomed and performed the worship of the Pothiji and Pujya Bhaishri. Thereafter the assembled saints kindled the auspicious lamp.

Commencing the narration of katha Pujya Bhaishri remarked that like a bubble arising in the water our life also is short lived. And nothing but our actions and deeds come with us after our death. Therefore we need to mend our actions and ways of living.
‘Dhanani bhoomou pashavashcha goshthe
Bharya grihadware janah smashane,
Dehashchitayam parlok marge
Karmanugo gachchati jeev ekah.’

i.e. The wealth remains back in this world, the possessions like the animals remain in their stables, in today’s language it means the cars remain back in the garages, the wife comes till the doors of the home, one whom we called our life partner she too accompanies only up to the doorsteps, people come up to the cremation ground, we believe that at least the body will come along with us but that too gives company only till the pyre, only our actions, our deeds follow us in the world hereafter. There is no animal which is more foolish than the humans. They spoil the actions which are sure to accompany them for the sake of the money which is going to remain behind. The fruits of actions have to be borne by everyone including Brahma. Though the scriptures prescribe four endeavours in life these days only two endeavours, those of artha and kaama mostly appear to dominate the lives of human beings. And most of the crimes are also committed because of artha and kaama. Because, people do not care about dharma and moksha. The streams of artha and kaama become life giving only when they flow within the banks of dharma and moksha. If they cross these banks then they become life destroying. Dharma is the purpose of artha and the purpose of kaama is the perpetuity of life. Therefore both artha and kaama should be achieved in such a way that no obstacle arises in attaining liberation.

Various occasions like Sri Krishna Janmotsav, Govardhan Puja, Rukmini vivaha, etc. were celebrated with great fanfare during the katha. For Sri Krishna janmotsav the entire marquee was decorated with flowers and garlands, balloons and leaves of banana trees. The cradle of Lord Sri Krishna weighed approximately 50 kgs. bedecked with lemons. Offerings of chhappan bhog were offered to Lord Govardhandhari on the occasion of Govardhan puja and the prasad was distributed amongst the people of the entire village.

The governor of Gujarat state H. E. Shri Navalkishore Sharma remained present on the occasion of Sri Krishna janmotsav. The Chairman of the Nirma group of industries Shri Karshanbhai Patel and Education Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben also came for the katha.
