Celebrated flutist Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia enchants audience at Mahashivaratri Sangeet Mahotsava, Varanasi

On 20th and 21st February 2001, a musical festival was organised in Varanasi as an offering of illustrious musicians to Lord Vishwanath on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. The program began with devotional notes played on the flute by the celebrated flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia who left the audience enchanted with his beautiful rendition. The eminent percussionist Pandit Kishan Maharaj accompanied him on the tabla. Shrimati Kavita Das, distinguished instrumentalist captivated the audience with her superb performance on Mohanveena. Pandit Pashupati Nath of Varanasi and Shri Samarish Chaudhary of Kolkata also presented their tributes in vocal music. The Bhishmapitamaha of Oddisi dance Padmashri Keluchararan Mahapatra and his disciple Ms. Ananya Mishra presented their dance offerings on the occasion.

The celebrated artists were greeted and honoured by Pujya Bhaishri. The other distinguished, honourable guests who graced the occasion were Pujya Muniji, Padmashri Girija Deviji and the organiser of the function Shri Deendayalji Jalan. The function was well attended by music lovers from all over India and abroad.
Such functions are being regularly organised every year in Varanasi by Shri Kishorilal Jalan Seva Trust. On 21st February Pujya Bhaishri and other Saints offered a special puja of Laghu Rudraabhishekam at the temple of Lord Vishwanathji. After the puja Pujya Bhaishri honoured the learned Brahmins.
