Maa Sati leaves with Shivji from Kailash to listen to Shri Ram katha. At the hermitage of Rishi Kumbhaj, Sati does not pay attention to their pooja performed by the Rishi and the katha narrated because she is focusing on trying to work out how to rid her husband of his grief. Sati’s aim was not to listen to the katha but to look after her husband.
On the way back to Kailash, Shankarji desires darshan of Shri Ram and his desire is fulfilled. His sorrow decreased on listening to the katha and attaining Shri Ram’s darshan.
Sati is the daughter of Daksha (intelligence). Sati thinks that this is an ideal opportunity to test my husband’s devotion for Shri Ram. Thus, she repeatedly asks Lord Shiv,” who are those two people that you are repeatedly calling Sachidanand?”
In return, Shankarji repeatedly tries to explain but Sati does not comprehend as she does not want to. You can try to rationalise to one who does not understand, but who can persuade one who already knows?
Now, a virtuous woman will not perform a test without gaining permission from her husband. Lord Shiv allows Maa Sati to test Shri Ram in order to remove her suspicion. Shivji knew that Sati is going to test his devotion for Shri Ram which is why he warns her to use her judgement respectfully. On the other hand, Sati thought that to certify Shivji, she will be slightly impolite. She repeatedly thinks with her heart on what steps to take next. After all, she is intelligent and will not take any step in haste.
Notice here that Sati thinks from her heart. However, it is not the heart’s job to think; this is the mind’s job. This shows that there is love behind Sati’s thinking. Both a man and a woman possess a heart and a mind but a man uses his mind more while a woman uses her heart more. Thus, when a man loves, it is with his mind and when a woman thinks, she thinks from her heart. This is why when a man tells a woman that she is the most beautiful woman in this world, a woman should not believe him quickly as there is some thinking behind what he is saying.
Thereafter, Sati takes the form of Maa Sita. The story on the stage shows that Sati does this to test Lord Ram whilst behind the curtains it is revealed that this act is to test Lord Shiv’s devotion for Lord Ram. Thereafter, Shivji renunciates his relationship with Sati and there is a divine utterance in the sky:
As kahu tumha bin karai ko aanaa, Ram bhagat samrath Bhagavaana.
Shivji, who can take such a difficult oath except you? You are the greatest devotee of Shri Ram.
Shankarji was filled with joy on gaining his certificate! Sati’s mission was accomplished. Sati’s eyes were filled with tears of happiness on seeing her husband’s happiness return.
