At the pavilion, Mainavati, Parvati’s mother, arrived to welcome the bridegroom. As she looked at the bridegroom’s face to do tilak, she became unconscious and fell.

Bikat besh Rudrahi jab dekha, abalanha ur bhay bhayau bisekha.

Bhaagi bhavan paithi ati traasa.

All the women from the bride’s side screamed and ran away. Shankarji asked, “What happened?”

Brahmaji replied, “they are a little scared and your mother-in-law is unconscious.”

“Now what should I do?”

“Let us go to our quarters”.

“Ok, let me know when she regains consciousness and I will return”.

Gae Mahesh jahaa janavaasa.

Everyone brought Mainavati to her room. When she regained consciousness after some time, she saw her daughter Parvati dressed as a bride. Immediately, she hugged her and took her into her laps. “My daughter,” she said sadly, “why has God, who has provided you with such beauty, made your husband so scary? Did you perform such difficult penance for such a husband? Did Naradji offer his advice for such a husband? How did I wrong Naradji for him to do this to us?”

Parvatiji said, “Mother, what are you saying?”

“My dear, I will jump into a well with you, jump from a cliff with you, burn in fire with you but I will not let you marry such a man.”

“Mother, I am prepared to do whatever you say but tell me first, can you erase my destiny?” That is why,

jani lehu maatu kalanku karuna pariharahu avasar nahi, dukhu sukhu jo likha lilaar hamare jaab jaha paaub taahi;

Suni Uma bachan bineet komal sakal abala sochahi, bahu bhaanti bidhihi lagaai dooshan nayan bhari bimochahi.

“Do not blame yourself mother; cease lamenting as this is not the time for it. I must reap the amount of joy and sorrow written in my life wherever I go.”

Hearing the soft and polite words of Uma, all the ladies became sad. They blamed the Creator in many ways and tears flowed from their eyes.

At that time, Naradji entered the town. People stopped Naradji and warned him not to enter the palace as this time he will not be worshipped. People are standing with sticks in their hands at the palace as he is the cause of everything that has happened. Naradji said, “what kind of a saint will I be if I go when I am to be worshipped but avoid going if I am to be insulted? A saint is one who tells the truth to both those who worship him and those who insult him. He shows his fearlessness.”
