Our Saints and great people never emphasise on hard work for materialistic happiness. Does this not affect one’s personal growth?

Our Scriptures have laid equal emphasis on Religion, wealth, desires and liberation, which are the goals of human life in Hinduism.  However, wealth and desires have been placed within the boundaries of Religion and liberation.  This means that we must earn wealth between these two disciplines.

We need to make a Dwarka of gold by earning wealth, not a Lanka of gold.  No Scripture has mentioned that materialism is bad.  However, neglecting religion for wealth is wrong.  Work hard as much as you are capable.

Even Gita lays emphasis on the principle of Karma (Actions).  Nonetheless, Gita advises to perform actions without expectation of results because having expectations of results makes the mind unsteady.  When the mind becomes unsteady, tension develops.  Tension leads to anger and anger results in one making mistakes.  Consequently, the result is not proper.

Overall, wealth and desire have been given the status of demi-gods.  Earning wealth is not a sin, however, it must be earned and used righteously.
