God says that I know my duty. I will stop you when you do something wrong. And it is true, when you are about to do something wrong, doesn’t something try to stop you within you? That which is stopping you is God.
Even then, when you commit something wrong, God mercifully regrets it. Thereafter, God creates a situation whereby we regret our actions.
So then why does God not create a situation such that we are not able to commit the wrong action despite being stubborn in ignoring the voice within us?
This is because, we have been given the independence in choosing the actions we perform. These actions then determine the results we suffer. We reap what we sow.
But God is merciful. Despite being warned from the inside, one performs the wrong deed. This is now a criminal court case where one will be punished. Thereafter, one cries during the suffering from the punishment. God is watching at this time. Even at this time, if one calls out to the Lord, chant’s God name, God gets the opportunity to destroy your sins/ wrongdoings.
A great example is Ajāmil. Despite being a terrible sinner, because he called out the name Narayan on his deathbed, he was rescued by the messengers of God. This is how merciful God is! He forgets all the wrongdoings of a person and protects one just on chanting His name!
“Nām sankīrtanam yasyā sarva pāp praṇāṣanam, pranāmo dukh śamanaḥ tam namāmi harim param. ”
God’s name has the power to destroy your sins. Gajendra called out to Him and He came to rescue him even before completing the full name.
