Day 1 Katha Summary

Below is a summary of the narration of the Bhagavat Katha by Pujya Bhaishri on the first day.

Until the wealth in the world seems real to us, we have not gained renunciation. When one attains renunciation, one does not need to sacrifice anything; renunciation happens by itself.

Now that one has not attained renunciation, that means they are attracted. What is the solution to this?

Solution if we cannot attain renunciation to the material world

In the second verse of the nine types of devotion in Shri Ram Charit Manas, it is advised that do not wipe out attachment but change its direction. This will also change the direction of life.

Look, there are only two things to listen to in this world:

1) God’s Katha,

2) Distress in the world.

Yes, Katha of the world is distressing. The cause of life and death as well as bondage is attachment to the world. Distress then follows. Should we gain affection for God through some means, then not only will our attachment for the world go, but also, sorrows as well as the cycle of life and death will cease.

How can we gain affection to God?

The one and only means to gain affection for God is to improve our company. Associate with those who when they speak, it is God’s Katha only. Keep the company of spiritual leaders. If there is talk of the material world anywhere then move far from there. Repeatedly remember and contemplate on what spiritual leaders say, God’s name and thoughts from the scriptures.

When a lustful person is working, he/she is constantly thinking of their beloved. Similarly, perform all tasks and simultaneously, remember a saint and his/her words. By doing this, you will have done plenty. This is the means of all means.

This is:

Pratham bhagati santan kar sangā, dūsrī rati mama Kathā prasangā

Meaning, the first devotion is the association of saints and the second is increasing affection for Katha.
