The Glorious Celebrations of Janmashtami and India’s Independence Day

Shri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated at Sandipani Vidyaniketan on 14th August with great fanfare. At 11pm, recitation of the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagavat began and continued till midnight when Shri Krishna’s birth was celebrated by Pujya Bhaishri, the Rishikumars and the assembled guests. This was followed by singing of bhajans and dhuns.
The joy of the people doubled the next day as the Janmashtami celebration was combined with the festival of the 62ndanniversary of India’s Independence Day. The teachers, professors, Rishikumarsand the guests assembled for the hoisting of the national flag. The National Anthem was sung after hoisting the flag.
Thereafter, the students of Gurukul (English medium) and Rishikul presented several programmes. One student of the Gurukul delivered a speech in English expressing concern over the deteriorating situation in the country, while another student from Rishikul recalled the glorious history of our country and suggested possible solutions to the present day problems in Sanskrit.
This was followed by speeches in English from the principal of Gurukul Dr. Bhattacharya and in Sanskrit by the Principal of Rishikul Shri Krishna Mishraji. Pujya Bhaishri delivered his enlightening discourse too.
Afterwards, everyone went into Shri Hari Mandir to celebrate Nand mahotsav. Pujya Bhaishri led others by rocking the cradle of Shri Baal Krishna. Shri Hari Mandir resonated with the echoing sounds of the thrilling chants of ‘Nand gher anand bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya laal ki’! People presented toys and gifts to Shri Baal Krishna.
Thus the twin events of Janmashtami and India’s Independence Day were celebrated with great gusto at Sandipani Vidyaniketan.
