In Democracy it is essential for the people to know both their rights as well as their duties. Today everyone is fighting and waging battles for their rights, but no one is giving a thought to their duty towards the nation.
In the age of royalty, it is said that as is the king, so are his people but in a democracy ‘yathā prajā tathā rājā’ i.e. the way people are so is the government. Hence, blaming only the political leaders for the spoilt situation is not correct. People’s indifference towards the nation’s problems is also equally responsible for the present day affairs.
The liberal and large-hearted religious leaders of our country should awaken the people and create awareness about these issues. They should ensure that patriotic leaders of strong character who accord highest importance to the interests of the nation come forward and support whole-heartedly. Even in the present times people have highest faith in such selfless leaders who dedicate their lives for building of the nation. People listen to them with due attention and seek inspiration from them.
Seeing the importance accorded by our countrymen to Dharma, even Dr. Radhakrishnan had commented that if at all we wish to establish social and economic justice in our country it can be made possible only through Dharma. Mahatma Gandhi Bapu realised this fact and correctly utilised it to gain independence for our country.
