When can liberation be attained?

Liberation means freedom; not from life, but freedom from attachment, illusion, desires, anger, greed and many demonic matters.

In short, annihilation of ignorance/ illusion is liberation. Thus liberation is not just emancipation from the body, but it can also be attained spiritually.
