A Parivrajak mahatma is one who does not stay at a place for long. He continuously keeps travelling from place to place. Therefore, it is said “Nadī baheti bhalī, sadhu chalatā bhalā” i.e. A river is best when it flows and a sage when he’s forever on the move. Even otherwise it is ordained for an ascetic that he should not stay below the same tree for more than three days.

A sage is an emissary of religion and culture. He spreads that message to all people by traveling from village to village. Therefore, he keeps wandering like Shukadeva, Sanatkumaras, Narada, and other revered sages and great people.
