In the first article, out of five, this Chaitra month, Pujya Bhaishri tells whether it is possible in the current times to be and live like Lord Ram.

The great poet Valmikiji said to Sage Naradji, “I want to write about an ideal person and a role model present in the current times. Tell me about a person who has a great character, is brave, has won over his senses, is good-looking, compassionate and virtuous. Such a person will not only be a role model, but also guide others on how to live life.”

Sage Narad replies that such a person is the son of king Dashrath who has been born in the lineage of Ikṣavāku. King Ikṣavāku was a karmayogi (a spiritual aspirant who follows the path of actions/duty).

First of all, God narrates Karma yoga (the path of actions/duty) to the Sun-God. The Sun-God narrates it to his son, Manu. Manu passes this on to his son Ikṣavāku. Thus Lord Ram was born in this ideal lineage in which every action is virtuous and character is an ideal.

Valmiki ji’s poem, Ramayan, was based on Lord Ram. Valmikiji’s purpose of writing this poem was to exemplify to others the ideal way on how to live life. Thus you may notice that Valmikiji does not give much importance to Lord Ram as God.

Valmikiji’s opinion is very practical and true in that if we consider Lord Ram as God, we will get away with the excuse that everything was possible for Him because He was God, whereas we are mere humans.
