There are numerous slaughterhouses for butchering of cows and its progenies in our country. What can we youngsters do to stop cow slaughter?

It is a painful blot on India’s name that the cow and its progenies are being slaughtered in our country. When Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) was fighting for freedom, he had a vision, that a law would be legislated in independent India, banning the slaughter of cow and its progenies. But even after celebrating the golden jubilee of our independence we have been unable to put Bapu’s vision into practice. This is really sad and shameful for us.

I always say during kathas that three things are very dear to Lord Krishna. These are, Gita, Gopi (milkmaid) and cow. In this country, Gita is being forgotten. Youngsters are not even aware of the number of chapters that Gita has. Gopis are being burnt alive. Gopi, over here meaning, any innocent woman who is being forced to die for dowry or other causes. Cows are being slaughtered. To slaughter the cow, which gives us milk in exchange of grass, is against Dharma as well as humanitarianism. To stop this situation, youngsters will have to fight on two fronts.

(a) (i) To agitate for the closures of slaughterhouses in our country.
(ii) Stop the making of new slaughterhouses, prevent them from starting their activities, oppose such activities, etc.
(iii) To exert pressure on the government to legislate against cow slaughter and to vote for only such candidates in elections who take the oath of working towards enacting such a law.

(b) (i) Make efforts to protect and nurture the cow and its progenies.
(ii) Every village should have Gaushalas, cowsheds. People should be encouraged to serve the cow and its progenies. This is being done through kathas, etc.
(iii) Every house should have a moneybox dedicated to Gau Seva (service of cows) and a fixed amount should be put into it daily with a spirit of devotion to the cow and cattle feed. At the end of the year, the money collected should be donated to the local Gaushala.

The youngsters should commit their services for any of the above activities. By doing so they will beget the blessings of Gau (cow) as well as Govind (Lord Krishna). And they will also earn punya (result of good deeds) in the process.
