Why am I stopped from breaking a law or doing something wrong yet I see others do this all the time?

While coming to a Katha once, I was stuck in a traffic jam chaos in which people from both sides had blocked the road. People were therefore breaking the rules and driving on the wrong side of the road. I refused the young people driving the car I was in that you will not break the rules while I’m in the car just because others are doing so. The young lads later apologised to me as I had told them off.

This is the current issue. When one person does something wrong, others follow in contention leading to the multiplication of wrong-doings. Many people are inspired by others committing the wrong act in order to compete and be better.

Your one lie is not limited to you. It impacts on others and the lie then multiplies. Similarly, when you perform one good deed, it is not confined to you. It inspires others to do similar good deeds.

In addition, when you perform a good deed it benefits you. When those inspired by you then perform a good deed in contention, not only will they benefit, but so will you as you are the inspirer. Thus, the fruit of your actions will continue to multiply. The same applies to bad/wrong deeds. You will reap the results of others’ wrong deeds as you are the inspirer.

You are a small part of this universe. This entire universe is called Vishnu and you are merely a small part of it. Whatever you do has an impact on the universe.

Tell me, when one person is ill in your family, are they the only one ill? Does it not affect the rest of the family? When one person laughs a lot in the family, does it not impact on the rest of the family? Before you can even explain the reason for your laughter on being asked, the rest of the house will start to laugh just seeing you laugh.

Your one wrong act influences the universe negatively whilst your one good deed influences the universe positively. Hence it is important you do not break laws or do something wrong just because others are doing so. Be the positive influencer!
