In relationships you act according to your emotions. For example, if you love someone, you present to them a rose flower; you bow to someone you respect; you may quarrel with someone you are not fond of.
However, in religion and rituals such as pooja-pāth, it is the opposite. Your emotions are made from your actions. Hence it is important to perform spiritual activities such as pooja, japa, meditation etc. Your emotions/feelings/sentiments will be created from your actions.
As you listen to Katha. you will develop love for God. As you continue to perform spiritual activities, you will purify internally and you will then develop love for God.
When you exercise, you develop fitness and strength within your body. Some people say there is no point in doing pooja-pāth. This is like saying that exercise is pointless. Is that true? No! You will benefit from exercising regularly. Similarly, there are benefits in doing these spiritual activities. However, you must do them with complete attention.
